The
Process

Extensive repairs to the exterior facade began
in September 2004. The defective stucco was identified and removed.
The repair work exposed the existence of an original steeple
of bricks that was not integrally incorporated within the exterior
steeple. In addition, the brick work in both steeples had deteriorated
substantially. Over 1500 spiral locks and 500 stitching rods
were installed in order to attach, stabilize and reinforce the
original historical brick and secondary brick work throughout
the steeple area. Once the stabilization was complete, the historical
restoration work was completed by replacing historical bricks
as required, tuck pointing and applying a historically correct
stucco mixture to the exterior.
